Our institutional records and collections date back to the 19th century. Our 73 archive collections and 55 special collections cover a range of the University's research strengths. We hold internationally important collections, including the archive of the Rugby Football League (RFL), the British Music Collection, and the archive of Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, amongst the records of the university and its predecessors, including the Mechanics Institute, Female Educational Institute, and the Technical College.

  • History

The University Archive and Special Collections service was set up in 1991. Initially created through collections based around the history of the institution, the archive has developed a number of strengths in particular areas of research, including art and design, education, music, politics, sport, theatre. We are actively developing the collections.
