These records were collated and catalogued as part of a Heritage Lottery Fund project in 2016 celebrating 90 years of netball: http://www.ournetballhistory.org.uk/ led by Project Officer Helen Carter with assistance from Tasmine Castle and volunteer Elizabeth Sartori.

Administrative / Biographical History

The All England Women's Net Ball Association was formed in 1926.

Netball had been introduced to England in 1895 with 'wastepaper baskets hanging on the walls of a students' gymnasium' (programme for AENA tournament 1957, EN/CM/1)

The county championship was introduced in 1932 (Essex won), and International matches started in 1949. The first World Tournament was in 1963.

In 1983 the association became a registered charity.

It has been known as:

All England Women's Net Ball Association 1926-1935, and for a further period between c1940-1944

All England Women's Association for Net Ball and other Hand Ball Games 1935-c1940

All England Netball Association c1945-1982

All England Netball Association Limited 1983-present
