Scope and Content

Early draft of part of HLP's British Synonymy; or, An attempt at regulating the choice of words in familiar conversation, 2 vols (London: G.G. & J. Robinson, 1794). This ambitious work was a culmination of HLP's interest in etymology and word play. As with her travel writing, HLP was experimenting with a male-dominated genre which she made her own by offering entertainment and insight.
