Scope and Content

Letters, 1877, to Thomas Hayward of Llanidloes, generally of a business and legal nature, together with some letters addressed to Mrs Hayward and to the Rev. Canon Evan Owen Phillips at St Davids, and copies and drafts of letters by Thomas Hayward. The correspondents include Evan Powell, Llanidloes (partition of Dinas Bank; possibility of nursery at Penybank), J. Price, Llanveigan Rectory, Brecknock, Charles F. Jervis, London (purchase of property in the Lane; probate of the will of his grandmother), J. S. Hunt, The Dinas Mawddwy Co., Dinas Mawddwy (delivery of 2,000 pipes at Llanidloes), W. Powell Price, County Court Registrar, Brecknock, J. H. Whatley, Garth, Ruabon (restoration of Llanidloes Church, with enclosure from J. Lewis Kennedy, Brynkinallt Chirk), Anne W. Whatley, Plas Madoc, E. Owen Phillips, the Vicarage, Aberystwyth, and at St Davids, H. Vaughan Thomas, Rhayader, Jno. Alex. Shepard, solicitor, Tredegar, Edwd W. Crosse, London (will of Wm Swancott; legacy by writer's father to the recipient), Thos Jones, Llanidloes (lease of Cefnfodau), J. C. Edwards, Trefynant Fire Clay Works, etc., Ruabon (delivery of pipes), W. N. Swettenham, Newtown, and Messrs Powell and Swettenham, London and Newtown, Messrs Talbot, Woosnam, and Hitchinson, Newtown, and Messrs Lovegrove and Bryan, Gloucester. The few letters addressed to Mrs Hayward and the Rev. E. O. Phillips are dated 1879 and relate to the death of Thomas Hayward and the probate of his will. Also included in the group is a letter, 12 Dec. 1871, from Evan Powell, estate agent, architect and civil engineer, Newtown, to T[homas] Hayward, Maenol, relating to a proposed exchange of land between General Woosnam and Mrs Phillips, and to the recipient's offer for Mr Elwell's field.
