Esther Fisher (Esther, Lady Barran) was a New Zealand pianist, the eldest daughter of New Zealand Davis Cup player Hon. F.M.B.Fisher. She trained with Baxter Buckley and Bernard Page in New Zealand, and with Isidore Philipp at the Paris Conservatoire following an audition with the pianist Busoni. She made her London debut at the Wigmore Hall in 1923. A close friend of the composer Cyril Scott, she popularised performance of his work. She married Sir John Nicholson Barran, Bart. in 1946. Esther Fisher also taught piano at Heathfield School and at the Royal College of Music for over 20 years.
