The Medical Library Committee was set up in 1931 following the transfer of the medical library of the Manchester Medical Society to the University. The Medical Society's library had been based at the University since 1874, and had previously been managed by a committee of the MMS, several of whose members joined the Medical Library Committee on its creation, including the chairman, Edward Brockbank. In the late 1960s, the Medical Library was integrated into the University library system, but this committee remained active until 1999 when it was replaced by a Faculty of Medicine library committee.
