Subjects include: holiday to Edinburgh (27 - 30 Sep); his son joining the university's boating club (24 Oct); municipal election (4 Nov); coal strike (1 - 6 Dec); his son's poem published in a newspaper (20 Dec); crowds in Govanhill to watch Celtic playing Motherwell at Hampden (11 Apr); burglary at his office (17 Apr); completing the census return (26 Apr); Glasgow Civic and Empire Week (29 May); royal visit to Glasgow (10 Jul); holiday to Rothesay (14 - 29 Aug); the decrease in value of the pound sterling (22 Sep); report of a riot by Glasgow's unemployed (2 Oct); burial of Sir Thomas Lipton in the Southern Necropolis (7 Oct); listening to broadcasts from various political parties (13 - 24 Oct); parliamentary election (27 Oct) and the municipal election (3 Nov).

In the back of the volume is a poem by Thomas Cairns Livingstone Junior.
