Handwritten daily entries accompanied by line drawings and illustrations drawn by the author.

Subjects include: postponement of work on the Cunard-line ship at Clydebank due to lack of funds (10 Dec); visit to Edinburgh (31 Dec - 4 Jan); riots in town (18 Jan); his job expanded to include that of travelling salesman (19 Feb); less orders received at work (26 Mar); holiday to Rothesay (1 - 14 Aug); description of a new scenic tour of Bute (11 Aug); electric lights now in Carmunnock (19 Sep); visit to Paisley delayed by those on a hunger march (26 Sep); visit to the shell of a building in Rutherglen which had been destroyed by fire a week previously (5 Mar); salary reduction due to poor business (8 Mar); decision to stop keeping a diary (22 Apr); last regular diary entry (24 Apr) and the death of his wife (27 Feb 1950).
