Scope and Content

A National School was establised in Bampton Weald in 1812. In 1864 a new school opened on a site provided by the 18th Earl of Shrewsbury (please see S16/2 for records of this school) and in 1873 an Infant School was added (please see S16/1 for records of this school). The school was further enlarged in 1947 and became a controlled school in 1949. In 1960 the senior department became a secondary Modern School (please see S16/3 for records of this school.) The school closed in 1965 having been replaced by a new Church of England Primary School built in 1961.
