Hornton National School was built in 1833. As a result of poor reports and lack a funds a School Board was compulsorily elected in 1875 and by 1878 was trying to take over management of the School. The vicar worked to get the order to erect a new School overturned and in 1881 the school reopened having been repaired and had a new wing added. The school became a Church of England School though the School Board remained until 1903. The school was destroyed by fire in 1912 and was replaced by a Council School in 1914. See S139/2 for records of this school. Please see S139/1 for other records of this school.
