The records in this section relate mainly to the planning and building of what was known as the Oxford University Synagogue and Communal Centre prior to its completion in 1974, but some records do relate to the few years after this when ongoing work on the new building was needed.
The foundation stone for the new building in Richmond Road, Oxford was laid on 22 October 1972. On Sunday 28 April 1974 the Oxford Jewish Community took possession of its new premises and consecrated its new synagogue. The property was henceforth known as the Oxford Synagogue and Jewish Centre. It was a triumphant occasion following years of careful planning and fundraising.
