Scope and Content

In January 1970 the B'nai B'rith Oxford Lodges sent out a memo from the B'nai B'rith Youth Committee to let people know about the possibility of setting up a Jewish Youth group for young people aged 6-18 years. There was already an Oxford Jewish Youth Club for those aged 13-18, which was formed Dec 1940, but they wished to extend the age range. Following this, the B'nai B'rith Youth Organisation in Oxford was set up 1970-1971. It was created to cater for the needs of Jewish teenagers growing up in Oxford. A varied programme of activities was organised each year to try to fulfil the BBYO five-fold programme of culture, religion, welfare, sports and social. A copy of the memo of 19th Jan 1970 is in O26/2/C1/1.
