Originally called The Oxford Federation of Women Zionists, later called the Oxford Women's Zionist Society (as mentioned in the 1943 minute book), and from 1982 called WIZO. WIZO is an International Jewish Women's organisation, which aims to raise funds for many projects in Israel, based on need and not race or religion. It also increases awareness of Jewish identity among its members and aims to deepen knowledge of Jewish heritage and culture. Some of the events that WIZO put on have the dual purpose of serving the Jewish community as well as raising money, such as Chanukah and Purim parties, celebrations for Yom Ha'atzma'ut, or the WIZO Shabbat.
