Scope and Content

A manuscript containing the second volume of Dr John Davies's Welsh-Latin Dictionary, in the autograph of Dr Davies. The manuscript appears to be a transcript of Sir Thomas Wiliems's Welsh-Latin Dictionary. This text contains more and fuller quotations than the printed edition of 1632.

Custodial History

Inscribed 'Johannes Bulkeley est verus possesor hujus libri A.D. 1703' (see folios on which 'Gwaeddan', 'Gwif', 'Gwydd', 'Lleidr' and 'Olwyn' occur); according to a note placed in the manuscript, there was a family of Bulkeleys at Dinas Mawddwy, not far from Mallwyd. The names of Thomas Edwards and Richard Owen occur frequently in the manuscript, with the date 1713. The manuscript belonged to Robert Saunderson, printer at Bala, in 1825.
