The British Naval Northwest Passage Expedition, 1821-1823 (led by Parry) sailed from London in April 1819. Parry sailed on HMS Fury with George Francis Lyon onboard HMS Hecla. The expedition was to search the area around the Foxe Basin north from Repulse Bay for the passage west. The two ships spent the winter of 1821/1822 at Winter Island (Southeast of Melville Peninsula). During their time at these winter quarters the expedition had numerous encounters with Eskimos. They spent a second winter close to the Eskimo settlement at Igloolik having discovered Fury and Hecla Strait separating Melville Peninsula from Baffin Island.

This was the last expedition to search for a Northwest passage through Hudson Strait.
