Administrative / Biographical History

The correspondence covers both his personal and professional life including over two hundred letters to his mother in law Lady Maria Josepha Stanley. Letters to his first wife Isabella include accounts of his Arctic voyages while correspondence with Sir John and James Clark Ross relate to the search for Sir John Franklin and the missing British Naval Northwest Passage Expedition, 1845-1848 (led by Franklin). There is also mention of Parry's time in Australia and his later appointment as assistant poor law commissioner for Norfolk and his work with the Home Packet Service.
