Track 1. [00:00:20] Social: Nancy Mascetti of Plasmarl. [00:00:38] Social: Grew up in Plasmarl in a house with Parents and an Uncle and Aunt. [00:01:17] Social: Aunt was the head teacher of the school that Nancy attended. [00:02:07] Social: Aware of the privelage she had living ina house with four adults as there was a large combined income. [00:02:30] Social: They had a bathroom which was very unusual. Lots of material advantages. [00:03:00] Social: Aware of the social deprivation around her. [00:03:28] Social: Daily papers in the house were Evening Post, Daily Herald, Picture Post, Radio Times and the Observer. [00:04:05] Social: Didn't have Sunday papers for Religious reasons - nothing was purchased on a Sunday. Chapel three times a day. [00:04:40] Community: Welsh language chapel. [00:05:27] Community: Evening services in all the Chapels so nancy would go round them all. [00:06:17] Social: Interviewer asks Nancy if her family said anything to her about the differances between the Roman Catholics and the Jews. [00:07:40] Social: Mother was a dressmaker but she did not go out to work. [00:08:15] Social: Nancy was not expected to help around the house - her studies wer considered too important. [00:09:35] Social: Nancy was put in a higher block in school to study for the scholarship. [00:10:40] Social: The pros and cons of family grouping in schools. [00:12:15] Second World War: Passed the scholarship and went to High School (Llwyn y Bryn). [00:12:36] Second World War: Went to school during the three night blitz. [00:13:46] Second World War: Describes the smell of burning and gas during and after the blitz. [00:14:54] Social: Extra curricular activities in school. [00:15:45] Second World War: If there had been an air raid school did not start until 11am. [00:16:14] Social: Thoughts about potential career choices. [00:16:45] Social: Took English, French, History and Latin at A Level. [00:17:05] Social: Went to Cardiff University. [00:18:00] Second World War: Ex servicemen returning from War, some went to university. [00:18:10] Second World War: Talks bout men coming back from war. [00:19:09] Second World War: Views of the young ex servicemen were more broad than those who stayed at home. More interesting.
