Track 1. [00:00:12] Second World War: Joined Home Guard in Swansea ARP for a year then invasion was imminent so joined Home guard. [00:01:18] Second World War: No uniform, had trousers first and jackets later. Then guns which we took home for 'quiet' training. [00:02:20] Second World War: Instruction in Rifle shooting, instructor shot a man in the leg and he subsequently died. [00:03:10] Second World War: In Fforestfach home guard. [00:03:45] Second World War: Colonel Aeron Thomas in charge, we wore red patches on our uniforms. [00:04:10] Second World War: Got pips and eventually was acting Captain. [00:05:00] Second World War: We trained with the static gun on Ravenhill. [00:05:54] Second World War: Eleven men on a gun, we eventually trained with live shells and went to Mumbles Hill. [00:06:40] Second World War: On Mumbles Hill we had to fire at a sleeve on a plane flying over as part of a display for the regulars. The first team was ok but the second team nearly hit the plane. [00:07:57] Second World War: Got better with training exercises. [00:09:20] Second World War: Excercises capturing other Home Guard Units. [00:10:20] Second World War: Put a man in a tree as an observer and forgot about him. We went off for tea and only remembered him later. [00:11:45] Second World War: We had to clean our own guns. [00:12:00] Second World War: 1943 I was called up to the Navy.
