In this manuscript letter Chappellsmith informs Owen that she arrived safely at New Harmony, Indiana on the 5th [July] after emigrating from England; thanks Owen for the advice he gave to contact a Mr Finch for information about by which vessel they should travel (The Maine); writes that it only took 43 days to get from Liverpool to "the bank of the Mississippi" and that her husband and herself enjoyed good weather and good health for the entire journey. The letter continues with considerable detail of Chapellsmith's exploits since arriving in New Harmony, including meeting Richard and Robert Dale and the rest of Owens' family who live there, and also her thoughts on the community.
