- Collections at the Edinburgh Campus consist of the archive of Heriot-Watt University and the predecessor bodies the School of Arts and Heriot-Watt College 1821-present; Riccarton Estate papers and plans 1454-1889; Leith Nautical College 1855-1987 and local history collections relating to Currie, Juniper Green and Balerno.
- The collecting policy for the Textile Collection at the Scottish Borders Campus is Scottish Textile Heritage with a focus on the woven woollen industry in Southern Scotland and collections to support teaching, learning and research. Key collections are business records from textile mills in southern Scotland, Bernat Klein, Donald Brothers interior design firm, tartan and highland dress, Paisley shawls, Scottish and international embroidered and woven textiles and the institutional archives of the Scottish College of Textiles and its predecessor bodies.
- History
- Heriot-Watt University was founded in 1821 as the School of Arts, the world's first Mechanics's Institute. Heritage and Information Governance is the official place of deposit for archives created by and about the University.
- The Textile Collection at the Scottish Borders Campus was originally developed by the staff at the Scottish College of Textiles as a resource to support teaching, learning and research. Management of the archive was transferred to Heriot-Watt University at the merger in 1998.
