A Multidisciplinary Working Group on Prenatal Screening for Toxoplasmosis in the UK met at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists on 10 July 1991 "to examine the available evidence relating to toxoplasmosis in pregnancy and congenital toxoplasmosis and, based on this evidence, to make recommendations as to whether or not a screening programme for toxoplasmosis in pregnancy should be introduced in the UK". The Chairman was Catherine Peckham from the Institute of Child Health. Representatives from the RCOG, Royal College of General Practitioners, Royal College of Pathologists were present also from British Paediatric Association, Faculty of Public Medicine, Public Health Laboratory, British Psychological Society, Association for Information on Maternity Services and a Department of Health observer.
