Scope and Content

Series of six ross drawings showing the progress of an operation to treat a ruptured aneurysm. The labels accompanying these drawings are, in order, as follows: frontal sinus & falx divided, area excised (yellowish), green yellow capsule of clot, hole into lateral ventricle, clot sucked out, aneurysm bulging into wall of capsule, frontal sinus, falx, and capsule of clot.

This drawing features in the publication J. Perry, 'Forty years of medical art: a biography of Dorothy Davison', Medical and Biological Illustration, 1971, 21(1), pp.27-32, in which it is described as follows: "Aneurysm of the anterior cerebral artery and the clot formed by haemorrhage. The last drawing show clips on the vessel at each side of the aneurysm. (One and a half days to do)".

Operative detail. Aneurysm right anterior cerebral artery which had ruptured to form a clot cavity in the right frontal lobe and also into the ventricle. The clot was evacuated and the aneurysm treated by clipping the artery.

Typed and attached across the bottom.
