Scope and Content

The earliest known record of Methodism in Standlake comes from a rough log of his journeys on foot kept by a minister of the Faringdon circuit who travelled round the villages of North Berkshire. We hold this document and its reference is P115/J/1. In 1857 a certificate was issued for a building on the present chapel site which was probably a temporary erection. In 1866 the leasehold of land was transferred for £10 and a second certificate of worship was issued for the present red brick edifice.
