Scope and Content

There was both a Wesleyan and a Primitive Methodist chapel here which opened about the same time. In 1848 the Primitive Methodists registered James Bidwell's house for worship. A chapel was then built at the corner of Castle Road and Church Street before 1863 but it was closed by the early 20th century and was used first as a reading room and later a garage. It was demolished in 1981.
