Two letters from Watson who was an instrument maker in Bolton.

/1 21 Feb. 1837, describes an unusual meteorological phenomenon recently encountered at Bolton, where a "blood red light" was seen later at might in the sky, and initially accompanied by lightning; he notes that there were reports the following morning of an unusually red sky in surrounding country districts.

/2 Feb. 1842, describes an experiment with a sugar solution . This letter is cited by Roscoe, Proceedings of the Lit and Phil, 1876, 15, 77-82.
