Scope and Content

Papers which relate to Dalton's involvement as an expert witness in a Chancery case relating to the disturbance of wells in the Harrogate area. The plaintiffs were Jonathan Shute, John Williams, Thomas Pugh, John Dearlove, and Jonathan Benn [Bew?] and the defendant Joseph Thackeray. The papers are now divided into four volumes and one roll: 1) includes a printed analysis of Crown Sulphur Spring; 2) includes letters from Peter Tolson, Endorsed "Dr. Dalton coincides in opinion with Dr. Turner and the others who claim Mr. West’s views untenable"/3 Reports from Edward Turner, professor of chemistry, University College, London and Nicholas Brown; 4) includes a deposition by John Phillips, and Mr Howgate's analysis of spring water.
