Scope and Content

The correspondence is divided into two sub-series:

1/1 Correspondence of John Charnley, which contains letters written by and to Charnley, the majority of which relate to the development and production of Charnley’s prostheses, equipment and environment for the Centre for Hip Surgery at Wrightington Hospital. There is also a small collection of personal correspondence.

1/2 Correspondence of William Waugh, generated during the research and production of the biography of Charnley by Waugh [John Charnley: The Man and the Hip.] The series includes correspondence with Charnley’s associates, colleagues and friends.
