Notes and papers made and gathered by Waugh during preparation for the biography of Charnley [John Charnley: the man and the hip].

The papers include reference to Charnley’s relationship with Harry Craven, John Read, Reg Elson, B.T. Hammond, W.J. Crawford, Edgar Somerville, J.H. Nuttall, Geoffrey Middleton, and information about Charnley gleaned by Waugh and Jill Charnley from interviews. Also included are notes on a visit by Waugh to Wrightington Hospital.

There are papers and articles relating to grants and funding made available to Charnley, a copy of a speech made by Charnley [on receipt of the Harding Award], and a plan of Wrightington Hospital. There is an account entitled The Development of the Charnley Low Friction Arthroplasty, and copies of sections of the minutes of the Regional Hospital Board relating to planning and development at Wrightington Hospital, with related correspondence, 1959 – 1962. There are also minutes of an International Hip Society Organizational Meeting, 1976.
