Letter

Scope and Content

Letter from RD to his parents and brother John, relating to: film offers which have been pouring in from Hollywood, all of which RD has stalled until the British release of [The Count of Monte] Cristo; his decision to focus on his West End stage career; his refusal of the Cameron role in the New York Theatre Guild production of A sleeping clergyman; his plans for possible stage and screen work during the next few months; his attendance at various first-nights because it is so important to be seen when one is not actually appearing in a play; his anger at the behaviour of Nanette [Osborne]; and his thoughts on the American family's plans for home improvements (including a sketch) and for building up their ranch business. He reports that [The Count of Monte] Cristo had a sensational Hollywood press.
