Scope and Content

An illuminated Book of Hours of the Virgin Mary, known as the Boddam Hours, written in France for use in the diocese of Rouen (and according to the use of Rouen). The manuscript contains: preliminary prayers; the hours proper; the penitential psalms and litany; the office for the dead; and suffrages and prayers. At the end of the manuscript are hymns and further prayers (some of which are in French) which were written separately and in a different hand from the main text, although they are from the same period. The side of the volume is labelled 'Missal'.
