Nicholson, economist and author of the Principles of Political Economy, lectured to Addis at Edinburgh University in 1899 and 1904 and remained in contact with him. These letters, from 1916 to 1925, are mainly Nicholson's comments on Addis's speeches and writings, together with his detailed views on the current economic situation and on currency problems; all are written from Edinburgh.
