PROPERTY AT YORKSHIRE

The Annesleys first acquired property in Yorkshire when in 1638, Elizabeth Annesley, the wife of Arthur Annesley (I), inherited a moiety of the manor of Thorganby. In 1640, she and her husband bought the other half of the manor, and a deed of 1642 shows that the whole property had been handed over to Arthur (I)'s father, Francis Annesley (I). After Francis (I)'s death in 1660, the lands went to his wife Jane, who in turn passed them to her daughter Katherine. In 1684, Katherine gave the lands to her brother Francis (V), in whose line the property remained. Francis (V)'s son Francis (VI) bought further land at Thorganby, as well as at West Cottingwith and Skipwith, but all the lands were sold in 1807 by Francis (VI)'s great-grandson Arthur Annesley (X).
