Scope and Content

Copies of files on the foundation of Clare Hall which had been compiled by Richard Eden for his publication on the new College and later deposited in the Clare Hall Archives. The collection was arranged by Richard Eden and has explanatory notes at the beginning of each section.

Also contains correspondence between Eden and the Clare College development office concerning sales of his book "Clare College and the founding of Clare Hall", 1998-2003.

Administrative / Biographical History

Richard John Eden, Emeritus Professor of Energy Studies, was elected Fellow of Clare College in 1951, also becoming Director of Studies in Mathematics. He was closely involved in the founding of Clare Hall in 1966 and in that year he also became a Fellow of Clare Hall, where after retirement he is now an Honorary Fellow. He is the author of "Clare College and the founding of Clare Hall", (Clare Hall, 1998).
