Administrative / Biographical History

(1888-1917). A talented musician, by the age of eight he was playing the organ at St Saviour's Church, Leicester. Matriculated at Clare, 1907 (organ scholar 1907-1910) and later was sub-organist at King's College. He was killed in action in 1917.

Known as 'Charles' to his family.

Acquisition Information

Acc 1989/9 and 1991/15 - Music manuscripts received from Tim Brown, Music Director at Clare, 1989 and 1991 (Acc 1989/9 & 1991/15). Papers were probably received via Nellie Haines, sister of Percy Haines. Ongoing contact with Dr John Porterfield (Clare 1956) about further Haines material with Haines family, Dec 2004 and April 2006.
