COPY LETTER from E[llis] Troughton at Demeary [West Indies] to his cousin [Catharina Margaretta Maria Allott]. Says he will be home next year whatever happens. Goes on to talk about the war, 'you have ...heard that the Rockfort Squadron ...had made their escape. They arriv'd six weeks ago...and have began to play the very Devil in these seas, owing to the .... neglect of our Ministers in keeping all our Troops in England to protect you from invasion which I don't believe Bonaparte ever dream'd of expect to keep the British on the alert...'. In a postscript adds that Admiral Cochrane with a squadron has arrived but that it is too late.
