LETTER: E[llis] troughton at Demerary, West Indies to his aunt Mrs. Troughton at Beaumaris. Apologises for not coming home to see his family. Mentions that '....the French Squadrons... arrived in the West Indies about six weeks ago, and have been plundering the inhabitants of Dominica, St. Kitts and Nevis...all this is owing to the neglect of our Ministers in keeping up such a petty establishment of land and Sea Forces in all our Foreign Possessions....'. Hopes that if there is a battle he can play a part in it. Ends by sending his regards to all his friends.
