- George Turner (1837-97) was born in Pelynt, near Lisceard in Cornwall. He was raised in the Church of England and was converted by the Free Methodist preacher [[John Swann] Withington in 1855. Turner entered the ministry of the Free Methodist ministry in 1860. He served as Connexional Secretary in 1887-88, Correspondence Secretary 1886, Missions Secretary 1889-94 and President of Conference in 1896. Source: Beckerlegge
