Scope and Content

The correspondence throws light on Carsten’s involvement in two publication projects of The Wiener Library including the planned Dokumentenwerk, a work on persecution and extermination of European Jewry between 1933 and 1945, as well as On the Track of Tyranny, a book published on occasion of Leonard Montefiore's 70th anniversary. In both cases Carsten’s contribution comprised editorial and authorial works.

Prof. Dr. Francis Ludwig Carsten (1911-1998) was a British historian of Jewish-German origin. His family had immigrated to England in 1936, where Carsten was appointed professor at the University of London. Germany was the main subject of his work. Berghahn, V., ‘Francis L.
