Scope and Content

Miscellaneous letters, 1927-49, addressed to D. J. Williams, with one letter from Messrs Henry Addison & Co. Ltd., Wellington, Shropshire, to W. Johns, esq., Council School, Llanbedr, 1907. Four notebooks containing a draft or preliminary copy of a classified list prepared by D. J. Williams of books suitable for schools published in Welsh. The list appears to be a continuation of one published in 1928, and was to have been published by the Merioneth County Association of the National Union of Teachers in the summer of 1949. There are also two letters and a circular. A file containing material in connection with a memorandum prepared in 1943 by the Merioneth Association of the National Union of Teachers with reference to Circular 182 (Board of Education - Welsh Department) on the Teaching of Welsh (9 Oct. 1942). The material includes the replies of Merioneth Schools to a questionnaire sent out by the Merioneth Association of Teachers. List of books and periodicals, etc., printed in Merioneth, with particular reference to an exhibition at the Dolgelley National Eisteddfod, 1949. There is also a chronological table of events in Merioneth ('Ystori'r Blynyddoedd ym Meirionnydd'). A list (on slips) of children's books in Welsh, 1903-1946. Bibliographical notes, etc., on children's books, including some notes in the autograph of Ifano Jones. A list (on slips and in a notebook) of children's magazines and school magazines published in Wales. ? Incomplete. A fragment of a Welsh dictionary for schools (Ab, ap - Addas). A letter-book, 1903-8 and 1931, containing copies of letters sent by D. J. Williams, with one letter, 20 Feb. 1904, from H. Williams (Ap Idris), Tyrcapel, Corris, to Dr Phylips, Tylorstown. Letters to D. J. Williams, 1949, relating mainly to his election as a County Councillor for co. Mer. Application and Testimonials of D. J. Williams, Llandderfel Council School, for the appointment of Head Teacher of the Dolgelley Council School, (?1926). Three copies. Personalia. Notes by J. Pierce as adjudicator of the recitation competitions at an Eisteddfod. Mainly in pencil. A Certificate awarded to 'Adran Llandderfel' at the Urdd National Eisteddfod, Caernarfon, 1930, for a travel book ('Llyfr Teithio').Certificates (2) awarded to D. J. Williams at the Pwllhelli National Eisteddfod, 1925, and the Llandybie National Eisteddfod, 1944, respectively.
