Housing Development: Kildrum, Cumbernauld (Gillespie, Kidd and Coia)

This contract was for a high density mixed development comprising 350 houses, flats & maisonettes. Provision was also made for Doctors' consulting rooms, a shopping square and a community hall.

There are 98 two-storey terrace houses with private gardens arranged around the perimeter of the site, the remainder of which was developed as open park land area in which are set long blocks of four & five-storey flats and maisonettes, each with its own screened clothes drying space on every floor.

At the north end of the site, adjacent to the bus stop, is a pedestrian square flanked by shops & the entrance to the 15-storey tower block which is intended to form a landmark throughout the surrounding countryside. From this square the main paths of the development lead through the park land containing children's playgrounds, sitting-out spaces, etc. to another small square on one side of which provision was made for a small community hall under of the blocks of flats.

The material has been arranged using original Gillespie Kidd and Coia project reference codes. The project incorporated a number of phases and consequently a number of different codes and names were used to identify the various phases. The catalogue uses the code HDC for all phases of the project, however when possible a distinction is between phases.
