Records Joule's laboratory work. The first entry is for experimental measurements of heat generated from bar of iron, use of electric cells, identifying specific heat of solution. On p.111, dated 7 Sep 1848, is the record of an experiment to test the strength of spider's silk, compared with iron wire. On pp.222-223 there are records of experiments on brewing, October 1849; p.280 Dec 29 1852, records an experiment to create an iron amalgam from mercury in a solution of iron sulphate connected to the zinc of a Daniell's cell.
