Administrative / Biographical History
The School of History and Archaeology was established in 1992 to co-ordinate the activities of the teaching and research staff involved in History and Archaeology. The University of Glasgow possesses one of the largest groups of historians and archaeologists in Britain with some 60 full-time members of staff, together with a number of part-time appointments.
The School of History and Archaeology consists of three teaching departments and a number of centres involved in research and other activities. The teaching departments are the Department of Archaeology, the Department of Economic and Social History, and the Department of History (which consists of the former Departments of Modern, Medieval, and Scottish History). The centres for research include the Centre for American Studies , the Scottish Centre for War Studies , the Centre for Renaissance and Medieval Studies , and the Europe-Japan Social Science Research Centre .
