The series comprises the accession of files deposited by Bernard Lovell in 2008 and 2009. These files relate to Lovell's activities as Observatory Director from the 1940s, and had been retained by Lovell after his retirement on account of their importance and sensitivity. A number of files relate to his work with various government agencies in the 1950s and 1960s including the Ministry of Defence, the Department for Scientific and Industrial Research/Ministry of Technology, Ministry of Aviation, and the Aeronautical Research Council . The files cover the Observatory's work with detection of ballistic rockets and satellites during the 1950s and 1960s.
