Administrative / Biographical History

Annual visits within the peculiar to observe the spiritual and moral welfare of the inhabitants produced voluminous visitation and court books. Files supplementing the main visitation records include returns to articles of enquiry, presentments, correction citations, excommunications, penances and churchwardens' oaths and declarations. In addition, files of miscellaneous correspondence illustrating a whole range of responsibilities and duties have survived.
