It appears to have been compiled primarily by Brinsley Ford in order to provide contextual background information for his unpublished text 'Aspects of the Grand Tour'. It was probably consulted by John Ingamells for the same purpose during the compilation of the 'Dictionary of British and Irish travellers in Italy'.
