Kingspark Secondary School, Simshill (Gillespie, Kidd and Coia)

Scope and Content

Job files, images and drawings related to project.

Administrative / Biographical History

The school, which accommodates 1350 pupils, occupies a site on the south side of the city and was planned as a complex of four individual buildings. The layout was aimed at simplicity of circulation and compactness, combining comprehensible forms expressive of the various functions found in a comprehensive school with the exploitation of the hill top site with its steep contours and long north slope.

The structure, with the exception of the steel framed roof over the Assembly Hall Block, is of 'normal' insitu reinforced concrete construction.

In the design of the buildings the architects aimed at the integration of planning and structure, and this resulted in the use of long span floors and roofs, large cantilevers and the elimination of external columns.
