Scope and Content

Includes designs and sketches which appear to have been created by MBH either as costumes for theatre or dance performances or as fashion wear. In some cases it is easy to distinguish between the two (particularly where designs are labelled with the name of a play of course), but in many cases the difference is not clear, and it is possible that some fashion wear has been catalogued as theatre costume and vice versa.

Notable theatre costumes include the 10 designs for the 'Teatro degli Indipendenti' in Rome made by MBH in 1928 and 1930, numerous paintings and pastels made by MBH for revue-style theatre(s) in Italy in 1954, and fashion designs for the actor Elisabeth Bergner. Previously in MBH/files 20, 29 and 30.
