Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
Captain Hippon of the seventh voyage arrived at Petapoli, a town and port of the Kishtna district in eastern India, in August 1611. He was well received by the local Governor and was allowed to land goods for trade. In 1614, Mr Floris arrived at the port and established a factory. The factory was withdrawn in 1621 but a merchant was retained there to continue trade. The factory was in existence again by 1633 but in 1687 the directors in London ordered it to be closed.
