Scope and Content

A non-liturgical setting of the requiem mass, for soprano, tenor, and baritone solos, chorus, orchestra, chamber orchestra, boys' choir and organ. Texts: the Missa pro Defunctis (Latin), and poems by Wilfred Owen. Dedicated to Roger Burney, Piers Dunkerley, David Gill and Michael Halliday.

In two volumes: an autograph short score (including discarded draft fragments), and a partly autograph full score.

First performance: 30 May 1962, at the Festival to celebrate the Consecration of St Michael's Cathedral, Coventry (relayed by the BBC Home Service).
