Scope and Content
Administrative / Biographical History
These documents were part of the archive of the Lloyd family of Pentrehobyn near Mold and of Trevor Hall, Llangollen, (located, before local government restructuring in the 1970's and 1990's, in former county units of Flintshire and Denbighshire respectively).
Although the collection was originally located at Glascoed, Llanddeiniolen, (formerly in the county unit of Caernarfonshire, now Gwynedd) it seems to have no connection, with Caernarfonshire or the Wynne family who owned the Glascoed estate until 1717, when it passed to the Thomas family of Caernarfon - rather the material is predominantly concerned with Flintshire. However, the location of the documents may be explained as a result of the marriage of Rice Thomas to Margaret Lloyd of Trevor Hall and Pentrehobyn.
Among the Lloyd family members who feature in the collection is Peter Lloyd who is prominent in the correspondence between 1735 and 1768 and who may have acted as agent and rent collector for the Watkin Williams Wynn estate in Montgomeryshire.
